Experiencing a loss often brings up powerful and complicated emotions. To help children ages 5-14 deal with the unique feelings following a loss or life change, the Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri and Saint Luke’s Home Care and Hospice are offering a special day camp June 8th-9th at Camp Tongawood.
The camp is designed for kids who’ve experienced a loss or change, such as a death of a loved one, a divorce in the family, moving, the death of a pet, losing a home, a serious illness in the family or changing schools. Express Yourself Camp offers:
- All-day activities to promote healthy coping skills.
- A safe environment for youth to express emotions associated with loss.
- Professionally trained staff including grief counselors and volunteers.
- Lunch and snacks provided.
Small group activities include music therapy, adventure programming, arts and crafts, skits and a closing ceremony. Campers will learn different ways to express their feelings of loss and to remember a loved one or a life change in a celebratory way.
Participants: Children (girls and boys) ages 5-14 years old (at time of camp), GS Membership not required. This is not an overnight camp. Campers will be dropped off at camp each day by 8am, and picked up by 4:30pm each day.
Thanks to an incredibly generous gift, 2026 Express Yourself Camp is available for just $10 per camper, helping remove financial barriers so every kid has the opportunity to attend camp.
